About CSB

Chittenden-South Burlington (CSB) Youth Hockey Association was formed in June 1982 as a non-profit organization for the purpose of teaching children the game of ice hockey. CSB primarily serves the towns of South Burlington, Shelburne, Charlotte, Hinesburg, Williston, and St. George, as designated by the Vermont State Hockey Association.

CSB is a volunteer organization, governed by a Board of Directors which is composed of parent volunteers. CSB’s programs are designed to be the foundation for improving skills, increasing participation levels, and creating a positive environment for youth hockey players. Most importantly, in partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), CSB  strives to teach our children life lessons through the sport of hockey that will help them develop into healthy, happy and succesful adults.

We teach our players to "Give Their Best", "Do What's Right" and to "Treat Others As We Want To Be Treated".

Sportsmanship and Fun are stressed in all of our programs, at all levels.

CSB’s programs are open to all skaters interested in learning to play ice hockey. To accommodate various interests, ages and skill levels, CSB offers levels of play which span an age range of 4-18 years old. The program offerings vary slightly from year to year, depending on registration numbers. Typical levels include the following:

Mites (4-8 yrs old): Mini (Introductory), House (Recreational), Cross Ice (Travel)
 Squirts (8-10 yrs old): House (Intro/Recreational), A, A/B, B (Travel)
 Pee Wee (11-12 yrs old): A, A/B, B (Travel)

INTRODUCTORY- Designed to meet the needs of the beginning player. The emphasis of the Mini Mite program is on having fun while learning basic skating skills.
There are two, approximately nine week sessions, the first at the beginning of the year and the second beginning later in the season. Skaters must be at least 4 years old by October 1st of the current year.

RECREATIONAL - Emphasizes "house league" play The emphasis of the Recreational program is to provide opportunities to play hockey for enjoyment as well as developing skills and team concepts.

TRAVEL - Designed to focus on skill development and team competition These programs focus on developing the individual skills and confidence of each player, in both themselves and their teammates. Travel is on a regular basis (each weekend), is typically within a 90 minute radius of Cairns Arena, but can occasionally be as far as 2.5 - 3 hrs from Cairns. Travel Teams will have at least one, weekend long, away tournament during the season. In addition, VASHA sponsors a State Tournament at the end of the season for all travel teams (A, A/B and B). A 1st or 2nd place finish at the State level for Squirt A, Pee Wee A, Bantam A and Midget A may lead to a Regional and potentially a National Tournament. A 1st at the State level for Squirt AB, Pee Wee AB or Bantam AB may lead to a Sectional Tournament.

CSB Girl's House Program- designed for girls 8-12 years old who are interested in a low key introduction to the sport of hockey. Girls will be taught the basics in a fun and engaging environment. Each session will begin with approximately 30 minutes of skill work followed by a half hour cross-ice games. Our CSB House girls will skate at the same time (one week night per week) as our U10 and U8 teams and may even have an opportunity to play with them on occasion. This is an incredible opportunity for any girl/family who is interested in trying the sport of hockey. (Because of space limitations, this program may be limited to the approximately 12 skaters).
